Mr. James H. ""Jim"" Michael, 79, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at his residence. He was born August 27, 1929 to the late Fred Fidel Michael and Emma Hester Michael in Watauga County. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his only sister, Helen Ford; and brothers, Fred F. Michael, Jr. and Paul E. Michael. Jim graduated from Reynolds High School in 1949 and completed two tours of duty in the U.S. Marine Corps. Jim retired from Western Electric with 32 years of service, was a member of Telephone Pioneers, a member of the Order of the Arrow in Boy Scouts of America and was past member of several golf associations. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57years, Nancy of the home; his children, Jody (Vic) Eckard of Winston-Salem, Tommy (Kim) Michael of Burlington and Peggy Auten of Greensboro; grandchildren, Mathew and Brad (Fiancé©e Brittany) Eckard, Todd and JoAnna Michael, Zachary, Emma, and Molly Auten; one brother, Roy (Deloris) Michael of Bremen, Ga; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Michael of Florence, SC; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. John Franklin Howard, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ardmore United Methodist Church, 630 S. Hawthorne Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln. Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
