James Mccollum

James Calvin McCollum, 71, passed away following a brief illness on December 18, 2022, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. James was born on December 19, 1950, to Mary Frances Gunter McCollum and Harold Rice McCollum in Reidsville, NC. He inherited a love of golf from his Papa who taught him the game from an early age. As a kid, he enjoyed the outdoors especially the woods around Elkin. His main delight was keeping his sisters rolling with laughter as they were his partners in crime. After moving to Winston-Salem, James made life-long friends in the Ardmore neighborhood. He was an accomplished musician with a particular fondness for early blues, learning the history of the genre as he perfected his acoustic guitar renditions. He will always be remembered as a fun-loving, free spirit.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kay Rankin. Surviving are his fiancée, Carol Anne Keeton; children, Amity Foreman, Andrew McCollum, and Lindsay Beth Spainhour; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; a sister, Carol Zavistoski (Stan); a brother-in-law, Michael Rankin; and three kitty companions. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
