James Edward "Jim" Livengood

James Edward ""Jim"" Livengood, 76, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on December 25, 2015 and celebrated Christmas in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jim was born on January 2, 1939 in Winston-Salem to the late William Edward (Ed) Livengood and Lola Faye Smith Durmire. A longtime resident of Winston-Salem, Mr. Livengood attended Griffith High School, class of 1957, and Wake Forest University. He married his wife Nancy Williams Livengood on August 16, 1959. Jim was a long-time active member of St. John's Lutheran Church on Silas Creek Parkway. Jim spent ten years working for Archer Aluminum, a division of RJ Reynolds, before he and his wife Nancy opened The Bicycle Shop in Clemmons, NC. He and Nancy worked and enjoyed their love of bicycles in the shop from 1972 until 2007. In life he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling, and riding his bike. He was full of love for his family and warmed the hearts of those around him with his never failing sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as brothers and sister, Charlie Livengood, Ronnie Livengood, Clyde Durmire, and Marie Durmire Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy Williams Livengood; three daughters, Tanya George of Winston-Salem, Lisa Beals and son-in-law Frank of Elkin, NC, Sharon Strom and son-in-law Brad of Raleigh, NC; seven grandchildren, Meghan and Matthew George, Courtney, Cameron, and Chandler Ann Beals, Benjamin and Catherine Strom; two brothers, James Donald Durmire (Jean) and Stan Durmire (Carolyn); sister, Brenda Deal; sister-in-law Jean Durmire; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday December 31, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Schoolcraft officiating and Travis Beane, Mark Cook, and Josh Tucker serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation with the family will follow the service. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to St. John's Lutheran Church, 2415 Silas Creek Parkway Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
