James Raleigh Lewis, Sr

James Raleigh Lewis, Sr. 92 of Winston-Salem passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born October 10, 1919 to the late Jefferson Columbus and Annie Elizabeth Cassada Lewis. He retired from Hanes Hosiery and served during WWII in the US Army from November 26, 1942 to September 27, 1945. He always had a project to do as long as he was able. Working in his garden and helping with the Prayer Garden at Bethel United Methodist Church off Burke Mill Road, which he was a member most of his adult life. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Viola Bennett Lewis and his sons James Raleigh Lewis, Jr and Christopher Donald Lewis; three sisters; Pattie Bane, Estelle Miller and Aileen Bryant and three brothers; Lenwood, George and David Lewis. He is survived by his daughter Barbara L. Milhous and husband Art, a grandson Ryan Milhous, a granddaughter Lisa Parker and husband Jim and two precious Great-Granddaughters; Hailey and Jenna. Also surviving are two sisters; Virginia Church and Helen Fare, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. David Smith officiating. Memorials may be made to Kate B.
