James Venable Joyce

Winston-Salem – Mr. James Venable Joyce, 80, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born on October 21, 1942, in Stokes County to James Ralph and Leila Venable Joyce. James graduated from Sandy Ridge High School in May 1961. He then attended Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He worked in the Radiology Department at Baptist Hospital for 44 years. James was a dedicated member of Crews United Methodist Church. James enjoyed fixing different things and crafts like woodworking and stained glass. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his loving aunts and uncles. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Linda Shermer Joyce; two children, Stephen Joyce (wife, Crystal) and Susan Joyce (Timmy and Mason); four grandchildren, Stephen Paul Joyce, Sarah Indicott (Will), Dylan Smith (Jessica), and Ryan Smith (Ashley); one great-granddaughter, Zelda Smith; and very special cousins.
