James Edward "Ed" Johnson

COLFAX-James Edward ""Ed"" Johnson, 70, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. He was born November 25, 1944 in Guilford Co., to the late James Hobert and Nannie Grace McBride Johnson.
Ed graduated from Page High School. He was a United States Army 1st Calvary Division Vietnam Veteran helicopter crew chief gunner, having received the purple heart, bronze star and air medal with the combat ""V"". He was employed for 32 years with the United States Postal Service.
Ed enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, going to the beach with his family and spending precious time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Johnson; sisters, Helen Tolliver, Ann Hunt, Myra Harrison and Billie Wilson.
Surviving are his wife, Irene Atkins Johnson of the home; two children, Bobby Adkins, and Jaime Robinson and husband, Matt; three grandchildren, Briana Adkins, Kloe and Colton Robinson; brother, Leon Johnson; sisters, Juanita (Donald) Moore, Arcola Eaton, Faye Deeming, Linda (Terry) Moore, Cynthia (Curtis) Mahaffey, Janice (Rev. Ronnie) Jones; and many family members and friends who will miss him greatly. Ed trusted and loved his Savior, and was blessed to be a part of Shady Grove Wesleyan Church, where he was a member for many years. He was a family man and loved each and everyone dearly, including his church family.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church with Pastor Nate Kingsbury, Pastor Phil Kirkman and Rev. Ronnie Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. We especially want to thank Dr. Patrick Hung and staff, as well as the staff of the Hospice of the Piedmont for their care.
