James Gus Chrysson (Jimmy) fell asleep in the Lord on the morning of May 21, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, godfather, uncle, friend, and community leader whose absence leaves a tremendous void in our hearts. Jimmy was born to Gus Chrysson and Mary Cuzmanes Chrysson on December 14th, 1955, in Winston-Salem. After obtaining his Real Estate license at 18, he graduated from RJ Reynolds High School and East Carolina University, obtaining a BSBA. During his time at ECU, he was active in Rho Epsilon, the student real estate association. He married his wife of 41 years, Rita Hondros Chrysson, in 1981; their love story began at first sight and never subsided. Both of his parents precede him in death, as well as his mother-in-law, Nicky Hondros. In addition to Rita, he is survived by his children, Christopher (Jennifer) and Nicole (Jackson Blaylock), all of Winston-Salem. Jimmy was an amazing, selfless father to Christopher and Nicole, and a devoted and dynamic Papou to his five precious grandchildren: James, Jax, Rita, Robert, and Leo. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his five siblings: George (Jennifer), Paul (Mary), and Nick Chrysson, Stacy Howard (Tom) and Liz White (Jere), a sister-in-law. Patty Hondros Collins (Jon), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was especially close with his father-in-law, Chris Hondros, who also survives him. To both of his in-laws, he was a loving companion. With his brother Paul, Jimmy maintained an impressive and creative career in real estate development and property management for more than 4 decades at Chrysson Brothers/CB Development. A lifelong member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Jimmy was a faithful steward, serving in many leadership capacities for various terms over the years, including Parish Council President, and Chairman of the Annunciation Foundation, Agape Fund, Athenian Night and Greek Festival. He spoke openly and joyfully about his Christian faith, and was always willing to live it out by helping others who were in need, those he knew and those he did not. Outside of church, he served on the board of Southern Community Bank, and several other boards; he participated in fundraisers for numerous charitable organizations. Socially, Jimmy was a bright light, whose genuine warmth and unique humor were contagious and unforgettable; he made everyone feel loved and at ease. An avid athlete, Jimmy ran countless marathons, consistently finishing in the top of his age group. He enjoyed golf on a regular basis, and hunted with a bow and arrow. He spent a much of his free time with family and friends at his mountain property in Devotion, NC. His “special girl” Daisy, a Bolognese dog, was with him almost everywhere he went. We cherish his memory and the profound example of love and service that he leaves behind. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 25th at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church from 6pm to 8pm, with a Trisagion service at 7pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday, May 26th, at 12pm, with the burial at Forsyth Memorial Park.
