Grim, James Leroy
July 4, 1926 – January 30, 2025
James (Jim) LeRoy Grim, 98, formerly of Haddonfield, NJ, passed away peacefully at Bermuda Village, Bermuda Run, NC on Thursday January 30, 2025. Jim was born July 4, 1926, to Clyde D. Grim, Sr. and Effie D. Grim of Reiffton, PA.
In June 1944, immediately after graduating from high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country in World War II. He was commissioned as a Radar Technician aboard the heavy cruiser U.S.S. Oregon City, on which he served until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Jim attended Clarkson University on the GI Bill. He graduated in 1950 with a B.S. Electrical Engineering, Magna Cum Laude, as a member of the prestigious Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.
Jim married Audrey Helen Hain on June 16, 1951. They would remain married for over 70 years, sustained by the same love they shared as newlyweds, until Audrey’s passing in July 2021.
Jim and Audrey built a wonderful life together. Supported by Audrey, Jim developed a successful business career, culminating as Vice President of GTE. They were longtime residents of Haddonfield, NJ, where they raised their two children, Dr. Mark Grim and Mrs. Ann Pippitt.
In 1991, he and Audrey moved to Bermuda Run, NC, where they spent over thirty years. During his retirement, Jim was a long-time member of Bermuda Run Country Club and was actively involved in the community through his church, the Salvation Army, and the Rotary Club of Clemmons (where he was named Rotarian of the Year).
Jim was a devoted friend and mentor, and a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved and supported his family unconditionally, and they were a source of great joy and pride. Jim also had a passion for golf, fishing, painting, and woodworking. His award-winning carvings are prized possessions among the family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clyde D. Grim, Jr., and his wife Audrey Hain Grim. He is survived by his son Dr. Mark H. Grim (Licia), and daughter, Ann G. Pippitt (Dr. Charles H. Pippitt, Jr.); grandchildren, Charles J. Pippitt (Megan), Lindsey A. Drew (Phillip), Dr. Laura B. Moore (Michael) and Sean T. Grim; great-grandchildren, Tatum, Hunter and Annsley Drew, Bryant and Tyson Pippitt, and Maddox and Sutton Moore. He also leaves behind a legacy through his many nieces and nephews. Jim will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered as we wait to reunite with him in heaven.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Memory of James LeRoy Grim to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, New York 10163-4777. [88% of every dollar goes to research].
