James Orville Holcomb passed away peacefully at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Mr. Holcomb was born on December 19, 1928, in to William Effie and Laura Honeycutt Holcomb. He spent most of his childhood in Iredell County, and had resided in Winston-Salem for over 50 years, retiring from McLean Trucking Company. He was a member of Konnoak Baptist Church. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, brothers J. B. Holcomb and William Holcomb, sisters Margaret Holcomb and Inez Holcomb, and a son Bobby Holcomb. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Virginia Elliott Holcomb, sons Brent Holcomb and wife, Julia, of Graham, Rick Holcomb and wife Jeanie, of Lone Jack, Missouri, grandchildren Heath Holcomb and wife Jennifer of Durham, Alison Holcomb of Raleigh, Teresa Camby, Stacey Deister, and Amy Ball of Missouri. He also leaves behind three sisters, Helen Stutts, Ruth Honeycutt, Shirley Barkley and husband Pete, and many nieces and nephews in the Lake Norman area. His wisdom and common sense will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff of the 8th floor Pulmonary Unit of Forsyth Memorial Hospital and at the Hospice Home for the care and attention given to Mr. Holcomb during his illness. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 AM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. John Paul Bishop and Dr. Ray Hamilton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery in Long Island, NC. The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, Konnoak Baptist Church, 400 McLean Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27127, or the Inez G.
