Mr. James Samuel Hill Sr., 58, passed away Friday, July 31, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born in Forsyth County on October 2, 1950 to the late Claude Herman Hill and Frances Cobbler Hill. James was a talented musician and played in the Shiloh United Methodist Church band where he was a member. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 36 years of service. James fought a long, hard battle with cancer since 2001. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Susie Hill. James is survived by his wife of 19 years, Virginia Reid Hill of the home; four children, Yvonne Marlowe and husband Craig of Pfafftown, James ""Jamie"" Hill Jr. of Winston-Salem, Debbie West of Concord and John McGee of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Shea Marlowe, Jeremy Childress, Tristan Childress Hill, Jesse West and Cheyenne West; one sister, Frances Dorsette and husband Eddie of Lexington; and two brothers, Buster Hill and wife Cherri of East Bend and Tommy Hill and wife Bonnie of Walkertown. Funeral services for James will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 2 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with the Rev. William ""Bill"" Currie officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; Shiloh United Methodist Church Building Fund, 6496 Baux Mountain Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105, or to The Cancer Center at Forsyth Medical Center.
