Mr. James Eldridge Hicks Jr., 91, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born September 21, 1917 in Stokes County to the late James E. Hicks Sr. and Mary Smith Hicks. Mr. Hicks was a loving husband and father who will be missed deeply by his family. He helped construct Bethany Baptist Church as a charter member and also served as a deacon. Mr. Hicks then moved his membership to Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church in Germanton where is has been a member and a past deacon for 37 years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Hicks retired from Food Fair Grocery Stores as a produce buyer with 43 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Moser Hicks and a great-grandson, Joshua Herron. Mr. Hicks is survived by three sons, Ted Hicks and wife Ida of Moooresville, Ned Hicks and wife Sue of Germanton and Rick Hicks and wife Pat of DeBary, FL, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Hicks will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Paul Dean and Rev. Gary Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening Dec. 12, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel.
