James Jamie Van Dong Hatter

James Van Dong Hatter, ""Jamie,"" 35, of Winston-Salem, passed away on December 29, 2009, at his home. Jamie was born September 27, 1974, in Saigon, Vietnam, and came to the United Sates, where he was adopted by the Hatter Family in Flint, Michigan in 1975. He attended Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem, and he continued his education at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, graduating in 1995 with an associate's degree in the culinary arts. Jamie began his professional career in Atlanta, GA. He then returned to Winston-Salem, where he continued his professional career, and was working at the Old 4th Street Filling Station at his time of death. In addition, he established and was running his own pastry business, Cake Creations in his spare time. He is survived by his father and mother, Bruce Hatter and Peggy Duffy Hatter; brothers Michael Hatter and Kevin Swider, sisters Marnie Hatter and Beth Oniskey, sister-in-law Jamie Swider, brother-in-law Rick Oniskey, and nieces Carly Oniskey and Logan Swider. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, January 4, 2010 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Winston-Salem, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 9:30 am - 11:00 am at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the General Scholarship Fund at the Culinary Institute of America in memory of James V.
