James Clark Fulton

KERNERSVILLE - James Clark Fulton, 76, peacefully departed from this earth on Saturday, October 3, 2015. Jim was born in Forsyth County on June 16, 1939 to Raymond and Frances Lowery Fulton. He resided all of his life in Forsyth County attending local schools. He met his future wife, Louise Wheeling Fulton, at Southwest High School in Winston-Salem and married in February of 1959. His primary career was in the Metal Building Industry in sales, district management and small business ownership. He excelled in the field of sales earning many accolades including trips to various destinations with his favorite destination being Paris, France. Earlier in his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and beach trips and later cultivated a passion for golf. He enjoyed playing golf for many years until the effects of Alzheimer 's disease prevented him from playing. Jim and wife, Louise, enjoyed many years of membership at First Baptist Church in Kernersville and initiated the addition of the first Sunday School Class known as the Rainbow Class for mentally challenged members. Jim was also involved in many activities involving his children, including President of the Kernersville Raiders Football Booster Club. His primary passion in life was his family. His entire life was devoted to the love and care of his wife and three children. Family was truly what gave him joy and satisfaction in this world. The loves of his life include, Louise Wheeling Fulton, his spouse of 56 years; his three children, Cindy Shumate (spouse, David), Jeff Fulton and Gretchen Fulton; grandchildren, Zachary Fulton, Noah Fulton, Justin Shumate, and Allison Shumate; great-grandchildren, Haylee Fulton and newborn, Lucas James Fulton. Also left to cherish his memories are sisters, Betty Peddle (spouse, Larry) and Jane Fulton; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim recently spoke of future travels and his desire to go to Alaska and Egypt. His life became curtailed in recent years with an Alzheimer's diagnosis. During the final period of his life, Jim somehow remained charming, witty and bright and continued to be a joy and delight. His final residence became Piney Grove Nursing Rehab Center. He befriended many special employees and treasured their care for him. The family wishes to acknowledge the many folks there, including the housekeepers, nurses and CNAs, the fix-it man, the carpet cleaning guy and many others who came to visit. We also give special thanks to Vanessa for her patience and guidance, Rosa who gave wonderful care during his final hours and a very special thanks to nurse, Peggy, whose TLC enhanced the quality of his life during his final months. The family also wishes to thank Hospice Palliative Care for their outstanding services. Although the services were brief, the care given provided a peaceful, painless end. Donations to Hospice Palliative Care and Alzheimer's Association are greatly appreciated.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 -- 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
