James Day

James “Jim” Francis Day, 64, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 1, 2022.  Jim used his aptitude and passion for chemistry and engineering throughout his entire career. He acquired numerous patents and was a renowned flame retardant compounds expert. Jim enjoyed traveling, football, weightlifting, reading, and spending time with his family, and dog, Budder. Above all, Jim devoted himself to prayer and faith in the Catholic Church.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his children, Jacquelyn Day Sawyer (Kedrick), Janelle Day, and Christopher Day; and his fiancée, Sharon Buige.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday July 7, 2022, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church (1730 Link Rd. Winston Salem NC 27103) with Father McCanless officiating. Burial to occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to UNCW Catholic Campus Ministry, 4802 College Acres Dr., Wilmington, NC 28403 for the intention of the family.
