Mr. James Brantley Davis, SR., 72, of Winston-Salem went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Davis was born in Forsyth County to the late Sam Si and Viola Crews Davis on August 9, 1936. He attended Mineral Springs High School and then attended NC State University for two years. Mr. Davis was a Deacon for nine years and taught Sunday School at Winston-Salem First and loved the Lord with all his heart. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed spending time at the coast with his family. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Lisa Davis. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 ½ years, Carolyn Davis; three sons James ""J.B"" Davis, Jr. and wife Cathy of Clemmons, Joseph C. Davis of Virginia, and Rodney T. Davis and wife Amy of Virginia; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister Nancy Woosley of Winston-Salem; a brother John Davis and wife Nancy of Winston-Salem; and a special mother -in-law ""Mimi"". A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Mike Rakes and John Bost officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winston-Salem First, 3730 University Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
