COLLINS KERNERSVILLE - Mr. James Alton Collins, 79, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born in Surry County on June 24, 1931 to the late Miles Zeno Collins and Annie Burchette Collins. Mr. Collins attended Jonesville High School and retired from Sara Lee with 38 years of service. He was a member of Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Collins. Mr. Collins is survived by his wife, Martha Ward Collins of the home; two daughters, Debbi Collins and fiancé©, Tom Lawson of Tobaccoville and Robyn Cromer and husband, Jerry of King; one son, Danny Collins and wife, Belynda of Jonesville; his step-children, Gilda Watson and husband, Johnny of Winston-Salem, Janie Russell and husband, Robert of Charlotte and Mike Walker and wife, Becky of Wallburg; five grandchildren, Angie, Haley, Sydney, Carly and Adam; six step-grandchildren, Tami, Jason, Danny, Stephen, John and Chris; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Madeline Gilmore of Jonesville, Louise Livengood and husband, Ed of Winston-Salem and Jeanette Hinshaw and husband, Howell of Boonville; two brothers, M.Z. Collins, Jr. and wife, Ailene of Winston-Salem and Jimmy Burchette and wife, Debbie of King; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral Services for Mr. Collins will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with the Rev. Wesley McLeod and the Rev. Nancy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
