James David “Dave” Clodfelter, 89 of Winston-Salem, NC passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019, following a period of declining health.  He was born on May 1, 1929, in Greensboro, NC the son of the late Henry Otis Clodfelter and Clara Redwine Clodfelter.  Dave earned a business degree from Guilford College; while there he met the love of his life “Sue”, who was attending Women’s College in Greensboro (UNCG).  They were happily married for 64 years.  After graduation he proudly served in the United States Army as an artillery sergeant, training the troops stateside during the Korean War.  Following the army, Dave began his career in the textile industry and became a plant manager for Burlington Industries Hosiery Division.  He later settled in Winston-Salem and retired from the Hanes Hosiery Weeks Plant.  Dave was a lifetime supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, he was an eagle scout, and had served as a scoutmaster.  Dave had a passion for golf and enjoyed many weekends with friends on the links. He enjoyed carpentry, gardening and boating with his family. He spent endless summers at the beach house he designed on Oak Island, NC.  Dave exemplified time-honored values of unconditional love, patience, fairness, honesty, humility and devotion.  He lived a full and fruitful life and will be warmly remembered by all those who had the privilege to know him. Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Suzane “Sue” Ogden Clodfelter; his son, Thomas William Clodfelter (Sharon); his sisters, Henrietta Lucke and Catherine Patrick; and brother, Robert Clodfelter.  He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Clodfelter McCabe (Darrell) of Disputanta VA; a son, Michael David Clodfelter (Phyllis) of Winston-Salem, NC; and two beloved grandsons, Ryan Clark Clodfelter and David William Clodfelter of Raleigh, NC; also, many loved nieces and nephews.  A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2019, in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Cherry Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 with Reverend Amy Carlan officiating. There will be a reception for family and friends following the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial gifts may be made to Senior Services, Inc., 2895 Shorefair Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek is assisting the Clodfelter family.
