Winston-Salem - James Marvin Chandler, Jr., 58, went to be with his heavenly Father Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born February 22, 1950 in Louisville, Kentucky to Wanola Huff Chandler and the late James Marvin Chandler, Sr. Mr. Chandler was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church for 22 years, where he had served as a Deacon and was the College and Career Sunday School teacher for 10 years. He retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Co. after 30 years of employment. After retirement he worked part time for Coldwell Banker Realty Co. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnn Callahan. In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife Sharon K. Chandler of the home; a daughter, Amanda Gatewood and husband Jonathan of Kernersville; a son, Jeremy Chandler of Winston Salem; two grandchildren, Payton and Layla Grayce; and a nephew, Kevin Callahan. Jimmy was a humble servant of God, a loving and faithful husband, and father, and a proud and devoted papaw. A funeral service will be conducted 4:00pm Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson, the Rev. Frank Shumate and Mr. Alan Comer officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm at the church prior to the service. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Chuck Harris and the doctors and nurses at Forsyth 5th Floor CICU and the 9th Floor Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful love that was given. They would like to express their love to Jimmy's special golfing buddy, Ernest Turner, and all the family and friends who supported him during his illness.
