James Jim Henry Carico

Mr. James ""Jim"" Henry Carico, 83, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at The Brian Center in Lexington. He was born Jan. 6, 1925, in Gaston County, the son of the late Monroe and Belvie Carico. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mildred Smith Carico; his son, David E. Carico; and his sisters, Myrtle Leonhardt and Martha Isenhour. Jim is survived by his daughter, Gloria Mills, and husband Robert of Wilmington; his son, Kenneth Carico, and wife Geni of Trinity; four grandchildren, Shannon C. Byrd, Kristen C. Varner and husband Kevin, David Carico and Sean Mills; six great-grandchildren, Andrew Byrd, Adam Byrd, Aaron Byrd, Morgan Carico, Kayla Varner and Kira Varner; a sister, Virgie Absher of Bessemer City; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the 87th Army Division in the Central European Campaign. He was a Bronze Star recipient. He worked as a carpenter, retiring from the Forsyth County school system. When asked about him being a carpenter, he would tell you that there was only one carpenter, and that was Jesus Christ, and without him our lives meant nothing. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Aug. 4, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Childrens' Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
