James Thomas Brooks, 54, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015. James, a kind and caring man, known by all as ""Tommy"", was born on November 28, 1960 to the late Ira and June Brooks. Tommy graduated from Parkland High School in 1979. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for 18 years. He worked in retail for the next 14 years until 2014 when he went to work in health care as a CNA.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Sarah C. Brooks; two sons, Christopher James Brooks and wife Ashlie, of Winston-Salem and Andrew Thomas Brooks and fiancé Candace Pope, of Lexington; grandchildren, Wesley ""Mack"" Brooks, Hunter Pope, and James ""David"" Brooks; sisters, Dora Brooks and Donna Praegitzer and husband, Richard; brother, Jesse Brooks; and six nieces and three nephews. He is also survived by a special lady, Betty Teague, that Tommy always said was more like a mother than a mother-in-law to him.
A graveside celebration of Tommy's life will be held Friday, July 31, 2015 at 12 pm at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the cemetery one hour prior to the service.
