God looked down from Heaven on Tuesday October 31, 2023, and his eye fell on a certain man who had struggled with pain for many years. He summoned the death angel to go to earth and get James Lee “Jim” Brewer. God, in His infinite wisdom, decided that since Jim has been plagued with polio and the associated problems for approximately 58 years, it was time for him to come home to Heaven.
Jim was born to Lelia Brewer Newman and Charles Arthur Brewer on November 28, 1934, and resided at 129 Scott Hollow Drive, Winston-Salem, NC. But he was born into God’s Family in 1962, which assured him a new body free from pain or problems and eternal rest in a mansion in Heaven.
Jim was happily married to Edna Fields for 42 years until she passed away. In 2003, he married Nancy Gallimore, who has since passed away.
Jim is survived by three siblings, Rosemary Dalton and Bruce Testerman of Virginia, Chapman Leonard Jr. and Marcia of Pfafftown. Also surviving is one son, Joseph and Angie Brewer of Winston-Salem, NC, and the love of his life, a grandson Corey Brewer of Lexington. Jim also has many nieces and nephews and some special friends Bobby and Debbie White.
He was preceded in death by his mother; four brothers Richard, Douglas, Eddie and William Brewer; and two sisters Ileen Tremble and Susie Leonard.
Jim attended school in Virginia before he moved to Winston-Salem and made a profession of faith in Christ in 1962. He then went on to join Hanes Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served as an Usher. He became a Bible Scholar and traveled extensively as long as he was able, to hear the Bible preached. Jim loved to come to Church, and it was not unusual to see him at church using two crutches or a wheelchair.
His occupations were in the Hanes Cotton Mill and heating and air conditioning, but he was later self-employed. Jim enjoyed car racing, motorcycles, and fishing. He befriended many people and would do anything to assist when the need arose.
A funeral service will be held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Monday November 6, 2023, at 2 pm with Pastor John White officiating. A visitation will be held on November 6, 2023, from 1pm-2pm. Serving as pallbearers during the service will be Bob White, Robert Marshall, Joe Brewer, Corey Brewer, Bruce Whited, and Cody Whited. Jim’s request for those left behind was to “Make preparations to join me”. Jim would say “Don’t y’all weep, I’m not dead. I’m just resting in the arms of Jesus.”
“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens.”
