James Bascome Holcomb

James B. Holcomb, 85, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC. 

James was born to Claude and Virginia Holcomb on November 15, 1939, in Forsyth County, NC. 

He graduated from Gray High School in Winston-Salem, NC, and served his country in the US Air Force. He also served with the Sheriff’s Department of Forsyth County for many years. He worked at RJR Archer, a subsidiary of RJ Reynolds Industries, for 33 years. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Bell Holcomb; daughter, Kimberly Yvonne Holcomb; brothers, Hugh D. Holcomb and Gene Holcomb; and sister, Ruth H. Powell. 

James is survived by his son, James A. “Tony” Holcomb (Susan); daughter, Susan Stainback (Dennis); grandchildren, Jenny, Ryan, Mandy, Cameron and Missy; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Susan Haire, Regina Johnson, Debbie Card, and Patrick Suarez. Special thanks to his caregivers at Piney Grove Nursing and Rehab and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. 

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A graveside service will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Parklawn Memorial Park. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
