Mr. James Edwin Ashley, age 88, of Winston-Salem passed away on February 12th, 2012 at KB Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Ashley was born in Wilkes County on October 8th, 1923 to James Franklin and Bessie Pardue Ashley. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanleyville and was a WWII veteran and POW having served his country in the United States Army. Upon returning to the States, James had a rewarding career as a truck driver for many years. In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by his wives, Maybelle Anderson Ashley and Barbara Miller Ashley, his daughter Susan A. Hammonds, two sisters Opal Harris and Frances Somers. Also, two brothers Clyde Ashley and Millard Ashley. Surviving him are his son, James Allen (Joan) Ashley of Georgia, two grandchildren Meredith Ashley and James Alexander Ashley. His sister, Carolyn (Robert) Dezern of Union Grove and one brother, Douglas Ashley of Harmony. He is also survived by a special cousin and friend Roy Whitman and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning, February 16th, 2012 at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Stanleyville by Reverend Eddie Honeycutt. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 290 of King. The family will receive friends at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall Wednesday evening, February the 15th from 6-8 PM.
