Mr. James Lorne Adkins, 91, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born October 8, 1919 in Lincoln County, West Virginia. Mr. Adkins was a member of Grace Baptist Temple. He loved his Lord above all else. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Gary; one sister; and five brothers. Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Imogene Adkins; three sons, Mike Adkins and wife Sandy of Winston-Salem, Pastor Dan Adkins and wife Ruth of Shinnston, WV, and Marc Adkins of the home; a daughter, Beldina Brown and husband Terry of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren; three brothers; and two sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Adkins cared for nearly 285 foster children at various times. Also surviving is a special foster son, Keith Knowlton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 23 at Grace Baptist Temple with Pastor Ed Sears officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
