Jake Marshall Sluder Sr.

SLUDER - TOBACCOVILLE Mr. Jake Marshall Sluder Sr. passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his home. He was born in Buncombe County on March 4, 1925 to the late Jake Sluder and Blanche Israel Rogers. Mr. Sluder proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He retired from Roadway Trucking with 25 years of service. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sluder was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Penland Sluder; two brothers; and one sister. He is survived by three daughters: Lona McKnight of Stanleyville, Joyce Smitherman of King and June Sluder of Walkertown; two sons: Don Sluder of Ellerbe and Jake Sluder Jr. of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; four brothers; and two sisters. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Bowden officiating.
