Jacob Phillip Foster

Mr. Jacob Phillip Foster, 88, of Clemmons passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born May 27, 1923 in Davie County to Franklin Kerr and Beulah Cope Foster. Mr. Foster was a faithful member of Hanes United Methodist Church where he was an usher. He retired from P.H. Hanes Knitting Co. and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the 238th Engineer Combat Battalion and was in Normandy on D-Day as well as a recipient of the Purple Heart. Preceding him in death are two brothers, Irving and T.J. Foster. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Hamilton Lewis; four children, Diane Lowder and friend Hilton Jones, Arlene Frye, Phillip Foster and wife Lynelle and Penny Mabe and husband Rick; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a brother, Charles Franklin Foster and a sister, Polly Foster. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Hanes United Methodist Church with Rev. R. Wesley McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Military Rites by VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
