Jack Spoon, Sr.

Mr. Jack Wingate Spoon, Sr., 82, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 at Britthaven of Kernersville. He was born March 31, 1927 in Forsyth County to Riley Eugene and Esther Cobel Spoon. Mr. Spoon was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy and was retired Circulation District Manager with the Winston-Salem Journal. He was preceded in death by Riley Spoon, Jr., Frank Spoon. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Bodsford Spoon; four children, Jack Spoon (Wanda) of Spartanburg, S.C., Mark Spoon (Lisa) of Kernersville, Richard Spoon of Winston-Salem, and Sandra Spoon (Warren), of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Jacquie, Rachel, Jordan, Brittany, Alec and Grayton; a sister, Betty Bornman. Funeral services will be held at 11: 00 a.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Jim Bowen. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, W-S, N.C. 27103 or to the Western Carolina Chapter Alzheimer's Association, 1315 Ashleybrook Lane, W-S, N.
