Jack Ford Spence, 87, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016. Jack was born to George Hylton Spence and Martha Lea Cain Spence on September 26, 1928. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters, Ernest, Jesse, Essie, Ethel, Marvin, Georgia, and John D. He is survived in death by his wife, Debbie Danner Spence, two sisters, Frances (Frankie) Horton 91, of Coral Springs, Florida and Beulah (Betty) Blum 93, of South Pasadena, Florida, four children, Danny Bradford Spence of Clemmons, Kenneth Hylton Spence of Clemmons, Jackalyn Spence White of Clemmons, and stepson, Michael Hicks of Currie, NC. He also has three grandchildren, Kristen, Kimberly and Justin, and four great grandchildren. Jack was born and grew up in Virginia but spent most of his life living in Winston Salem. He spent most of his career in hotel/restaurant and hospitality management and was an integral part of the Robert E Lee Hotel, as well as the Benton Convention Center and the Winston Salem Elks Lodge. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and playing cards. A private celebration of life will be held at a date to be announced as well as a memorial service in Dugspur, VA at the Spence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice or Salemtowne.org.
