Jack Linville Smith passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on March 1, 2015. Jack was born in Henry County, Virginia, to Alonzo Elmo Smith and Gertrude Linville Smith on December 31, 1934. He graduated from Courtney High School in 1953. Following graduation he was employed by Erwin Cotton Mills in Cooleemee, NC. He joined the US Navy in July 1954 and was honorably discharged in July 1958. He married Patricia Spease on November 3, 1957. He retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company on November 1, 1988 with 29 years of service. Until his health failed, he was an active member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Yadkin County and was also active with the Boy Scouts and Red Cross. He is survived by his wife Patricia; daughter, Lynn Smith of Winston-Salem; son Kevin Smith (Deana) of Purlear; two grandchildren, Brandon May (Elizabeth) of Suffolk, Virginia and Sheena Flint (Mike) of Winston-Salem and four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie May, Wesley May, Aubrey May and Brayden Flint. Also surviving are one sister, Phyllis Miller (Wayne) of Winston-Salem and one brother, Bennie Smith (Betty) of Mocksville. A private graveside service and celebration of his life will be held for the immediate family at a later date.
