Jack LaFave Peoples, age 80, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday morning, May 2, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center after losing his battle with cancer. He was born October 26, 1929 in Winston Salem, NC to the late Luke and Mary (Nanny) Peoples. He was a very active member of Edgewood Baptist Church. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 1983 after 34 years of loyal service. His passions were his church, fishing, gardening, golf, the Atlanta Braves and Wake Forest football and basketball. Jack also loved spending time at his daughter's business, Debbie's Staffing, which he proudly watched grow from its beginning in 1986. He loved his family and friends and was loved by all that knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Marion (Bud) Peoples. Surviving is his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Ruth Morgan Peoples of the home, one daughter Debbie Little and her husband Heinz of Mooresville, NC, two step granddaughters, Tracey Woodson and her husband Mike of Winston-Salem, Kelly Rabalais and her husband Brian of Denver, NC, and two step great grandchildren, Chandler and Kayla, a brother Joe and his wife Joan Peoples of Michigan, a sister Brownie Cherry of Winston-Salem, his sisters-in-law Juanita Peoples of Winston-Salem, NC, Marie Rice of Charlotte, NC, Hattie Morgan of Portland, TN, Janette Fisher and her husband Gerald of Marshall, NC, his brothers-in-law M.T. Morgan and his wife Shirley of Johnson City, TN, Frank Morgan, Jr. and his wife Martha Ann of Marshall, NC, Joe Morgan of Marshall, NC and many nieces and nephews scattered all over the country whom he loved very much. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 5th at Edgewood Baptist Church, 4067 Reidsville Road, Winston-Salem, NC with Dr. Richard Odom, Reverend Joe McWethy and Reverend Shawn Dobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, NC. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Derrick L Davis Forsyth Regional Cancer Center, Wake Forest Athletics, or a charity of your choice in memory of Jack. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Thomas Grote, and to the nurses and staff at Derrick L Davis Forsyth Regional Cancer Center and Forsyth Medical Center.
