Jack Edward Morgan

Jack Edward Morgan, 88, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Salemtowne Retirement Community. He was born to Myrtle and Hampton Morgan on July 6, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Birchel Morgan; and three sisters, Ann Reavis, Glennie Walsh, and Celeste Gregory. Jack is survived by two sons, Danny Morgan (Shirley) and Steve Morgan (Nancy); and three brothers, Hampton Morgan, Frank Morgan (Helen), and Jim Morgan (Mary Alice).
Jack retired as Captain in the Winston-Salem Fire Department with 30 years of service. Jack made friends easily and was happiest when doing for others. He was a busy handyman who was willing to help regardless of the hour. He was upbeat, optimistic and happy, thus lifting the spirits of those around him. Jack was a dedicated and active member of his church. He served on boards, assisted with communion, made repairs, sang tenor in the choir, and led Sunday School song-time with joyful enthusiasm.
Services to celebrate Jack's life will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Burial will be at 1 pm at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, followed by a memorial service at 2 pm at First United Church of Christ, 1912 Waughtown Street, Winston-Salem, officiated by Rev. David Crook, Rev. Wayne Linville and Rev. Christa Warise. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
The family is deeply grateful for the attention and exceptional care provided by the staff at Salemtowne during the past five years. Memorials are requested to Salemtowne Retirement Community, Associates Appreciation Fund, 1000 Salemtowne Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
