Mr. Jack Douglas Mays, age 62 of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, October 30, 2009 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Jack was born in Guilford County October 29, 1947 to the late John Stewart and Vergie Lee Williams Mays. Jack was of the Baptist faith. He was a Vietnam veteran having served in the US Army for 11 years. Jack retired as Postmaster from the Pilot Mountain Post Office and had 22 years in the postal system. He was a very loving and caring husband, son, and brother. An avid fisherman and loved to travel and had a passion for his cats. Jack was preceded in death by his father and one brother Russell Stewart Mays. Surviving is his wife of 40 years: Linda Mays of the home. His mother: Vergie Lee Williams Mays of Winston-Salem. One sister: Margaret Mays Brown of Winston-Salem and one brother Kenneth (Leslie) Mays of Oak Ridge. Several nieces and nephews. A special cousin: Bill (Kelly) Grubbs of Winston-Salem and numerous family members and friends. A graveside service will be held Wednesday morning November 4, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall by Pastor Bob Steele. Military burial rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 290 of King. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall Tuesday evening November 3, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Saint Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 Jack, I love you and you will always be in my heart and thoughts forever (Linda)
