Mr. Jack Everett Matthews, 91, of Winston-Salem passed away Monday, April 16, 2012 at The Oaks at Forsyth. He was born May 9, 1920 in Leaksville (Eden) to Dr.William Walter and Marion Dininny Matthews. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the 209th Coast Artillery. Mr. Matthews was retired from Amp, Inc. after 19 years of service and was a lifetime member of the Elks Club, Lodge 449. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law,Max Talhelm, a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Rose Matthews, and a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and John Lowe. Jack was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Helen Chapple Matthews; two daughters, Janet Matthews Clayton and husband, Mark, Pam Matthews Phipps and husband, Mike; two granddaughters, Lindsay Phipps and Morgan Phipps; a sister, Lorene Talhelm; a special niece, Ellen Hayes and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday at Forsyth Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Ronald A. Rinn officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Augsburg Lutheran Church, 845 W.
