Jack Herbert Hickman, Sr., 91 of Winston-Salem, NC passed away on Sunday 1/31/2021 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Summerton, South Carolina on December 5, 1929 to Mary Leona Ross Hickman and Herbert Hayes Hickman. He grew up in Sumter, SC and was a resident of Charlotte, NC for many years. Jack graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy in 1952 and became a registered pharmacist. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Medical Service Officer. Following his time in service, he worked at several pharmacies in the Charlotte area until his retirement. He and wife Ruth moved to Clemmons, NC soon after retirement to be closer to family. Jack resided at Creekside Terrace in Winston-Salem from 2014 until his death. He made some great friends there and appreciated the efforts of the staff immensely. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth Henry Hickman. He is survived by son Jack Hickman, Jr. and partner Karen Ritzie Schmitt of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter Toni Hickman McClain and husband John McClain of Winston-Salem, NC; three granddaughters: Sarah McClain Kivett and husband Shawn Kivett of Winston-Salem, NC. Lindsay McClain Summey and husband Charles Joshua Summey of Stanley, NC and Rylee Hickman of St. Petersburg, FL; as well as great granddaughters: Emerson Kate Summey and Isla Elizabeth Kivett. Due to Covid-19 there will not be a service at this time. The family will gather at a later date on Tybee Island, GA for a private service.
