Jack Clowers

Jack Wesley Clowers, 93, died November 1, 2022.

He was born May 11, 1929, in Winston-Salem, NC, one of eight children of Nannie Sue and James Wesley Clowers.  Mr. Clowers lived his entire life in Winston-Salem. He graduated from James A. Gray High School, where he developed a life-long love of sports. He pitched and played first base on the baseball team that won a North Carolina high school state championship, and later played on a number of city league softball teams.

He was a member of Trinity Moravian Church, where he ushered, played softball and served at the traditional Moravian Love Feasts for many years.  He was employed by Hanes Hosiery / Sarah Lee for 43 years until his retirement.  Jack Clowers served in the National Guard, was a member of the Konoak Hills Lions Club and volunteered for Meals on Wheels with his wife of more than 60 years, Frances Ann Clowers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters and two brothers; and his wife, Ann.

Surviving are two sons, Dan (Anne) and David (Tiffany) Clowers; two granddaughters, Carrie and Katie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Gigi and Tanya for providing continuous and compassionate care during the final years of his life, allowing him to remain in the home. Special thanks as well to the kind nurses of Trellis Supportive Care for their daily visits.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Trinity Moravian Church, with The Rev. John Jackman officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will immediately follow the service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
