Mr. J. Cecil Jeffords, 91, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in 1926 to Mr. Boyd L. Jeffords and Mrs. Bertha Arnold Jeffords in Elkin. Cecil graduated from Germanton High School in 1942 and from Wake Forest College in 1950 with a BBA degree. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines for eighteen months during WWII. He entered active duty in the Army for thirty-nine months in years 1950-1953 and served the last eighteen months in Berlin, Germany. Cecil was released as a 1st Lt. in the Finance Corps. He served as a director with the Carolinas Assoc. of Mutual Insurance Agents and as a member of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Insurance Advisory Committee for nine years. In 1985, Cecil retired from Jeffords Insurance Agency. Cecil was a member of the Winston Lodge, Winton-Salem Scottish Rite and Oasis Shrine. He was also a member of the American Legion and North Carolina Korean War Veterans Assoc. He volunteered with the American Red Cross Blood-Mobile drives and Meals on Wheels for several years, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Cecil enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing bridge during his earlier years, in addition to reading WWII history and having coffee with his friends at McDonald's. He was also well known for his near photographic memory. Cecil was a very proud patriot, who enjoyed wearing his officer's uniform at local Veteran's Day parades. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and five brothers. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Peggy S. Jeffords, two sons, Steven C. Jeffords and wife Martha of Asheville, and J. Scott Jeffords and wife Lynn of Davidson, and three grandchildren, Andrew Jeffords of Duluth, GA, Jay Jeffords of Durham, and Kathryn Jeffords of Jackson, WY. A graveside service will be conducted in his honor 1:30 PM, Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Forsyth Memorial Park officiated by Dr. Gary Chapman. The family will receive friends 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
