WINSTON-SALEM - Isaac Allen Miller, age 82, went home to the Lord on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Baptist Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He fought a valiant fight with Alzheimer's for the last six years before he just got too tired and God called him home. Isaac was born on January 29, 1930 to Hamp and Etta Miller in Ashe County, NC, the tenth of thirteen children. He was predeceased by his parents, five sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his brother, Paul Miller (Mae) of N. Wilkesboro, three sisters, Betty Pardue (J.S.), Raydell Meeker, and Sadie Jarvis, all of Wilkes County. He was also predeceased by one grandson, Jobe Thurmond Miller of Winston-Salem, NC. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 60 years, Evelyn R. Miller of Winston-Salem, NC, four sons: Stevie, Danny, Tony and Jimmy Miller (Vicky) all of Winston-Salem and three daughters: Judy Potts (Gary) of Lexington, NC, Patty Nobles (Randy) of Winston-Salem, and Mary Ann Jones (Randy) of Kernersville, NC as well as twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a member of Linville Forest Church of Christ and helped serve the Lord's Supper as long as his health permitted. He moved his family from N. Wilkesboro to Winston-Salem in 1956 and went to work for Martin Motor Lines as a truck driver. He went to work for Epes Transport in 1975 and retired in 1995. He then went back to Epes Transport as a part time driver until his health starting catching up with his age. He started driving at age 13. He drove a lumber truck through the woods and fields until he turned 16 and got his driver's license, when he got on the roads in a truck and never looked back. His hobbies included Nascar racing, fishing and riding the tractor to mow and work in the garden. He loved the Lord, life and his family. The family will meet with friends and loved ones on Tuesday evening, April 3, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. There will be a private graveside service on Wednesday with Jim Harrison directing the service. In place of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be sent to the Carolina Bible Camp and Retreat, 1988 Jericho Church Rd, Mocksville, NC 27028. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of the Neurology Department on the 5th floor of Ardmore Tower, Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem for the above and beyond care shown to Isaac and his family during his final days.
