Mr. Irving ""I.J."" Joshua Miller, Jr., 89, died after a brief illness on Friday, November 21, 2008. He was born in Winston-Salem August 22, 1919 to Irving J. Miller, Sr. and Pearl Craft Miller. He was educated in the Winston-Salem schools and was a 1941 graduate at UNC-Chapel Hill. Mr. Miller served in the U.S. Army from May 1941 to December 1945. He was retired from AT & T Technologies. On December 18, 1941 he married Nell Joyce, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and their wives and families, Steven and Sue Miller and Heather Miller Long (husband Todd), all of Winston-Salem and Michael and Tammy Miller and Dana and Derek Miller, all of Raleigh. Mr. Miller was a charter member of Knollwood Baptist Church and was a member of the Roddick Men's Sunday School Class. He was the first church pianist. His hobbies were music, dancing, traveling, gardening and in his later years as a hobby he appeared as an extra in a number of movies filmed in Winston-Salem by film companies and by the School of the Arts Film School. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, November 24, 2008 at Forsyth Memorial Park with Dr. Christopher Chapman and Rev. Heather Miller Long officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
