Mrs. Iris Murphy Barnes, 65, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Columbia, SC on May 17, 1950 to the late Leo Murphy, Sr. and Gracie Harrell Murphy. She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother and was known for always putting others first. Mrs. Barnes was a proud alumnus of Duke and an avid Duke Basketball fan. She retired as a Math teacher at Mt. Tabor High School. Mrs. Barnes loved to play scrabble, enjoyed reading, and going to the beach. Surviving is her husband of 44 years, Mal Barnes; two daughters, Valerie Crumpton (David) of Clemmons, and Adrienne Lalanne (Samuel) of Brooklyn, NY; two granddaughters, Gabrielle Crumpton and Olivia Lalanne; five brothers, Leo Murphy, Jr. (Brenda), Billy Murphy (Hannilore), Johnny Murphy, Donald Murphy (Janice), and Barney Murphy (Nettie); one sister, Shirley Edwards (Tony); also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins; We want to extend our gratitude to the countless friends who have shown tremendous support for so many years.
