Ms. Irene G. Shoaf, 88, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Henry Etta and Bruce Hinkle Hospice House in Davidson County. She was born on March 23, 1921 in Forsyth County to Ernest and Minnie Garwood. Ms. Shoaf was a member of Konnoak Hills Moravian Church and of the Beta Sigma Phi Gamma Masters Sorority for 50 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry ""Buck"" Shoaf, and her three brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Cooper and husband Donnie of Southport; a son, David Shoaf and wife Wendy of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren, Jeff Shoaf and wife Crystal of Winston-Salem, James Maitland III and wife Marie of Goochland, VA, Joy McClenny and husband Rob of Southport, Jenna Shoaf of Richmond, VA, and Julie Shoaf of Richmond, VA; and one great grandchild, Justin Maitland. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Reverend John Rights officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 8 at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Hospice for the excellent care and support they provided to Ms. Shoaf.
