Irene Victoria Manfredi

Irene Victoria Ivanoff Manfredi, 69, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born August 10, 1944 in Tsingtao, China to Victor and Nina Ivanoff. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1955 settling in San Francisco, California. Irene earned a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and was a Registered Nurse for the city and county of San Francisco. Irene chose nursing as her profession because she wanted to help others and desired a career in medicine. She later moved to Winston-Salem, where she worked for Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She loved life and her grandchildren. Irene was an avid reader, a lover of animals, and enjoyed spending time with her family most of all. She was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Winston-Salem. Surviving are two daughters, Natalie Holton (husband, Campion) and Lia Wu (husband, Anson), whom she raised by herself, and six grandchildren, Anya, Nina, Nadya, Luke, Noah and Sofya. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel in Winston-Salem with Fr. Demetri Kangelaris officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at the Holy Virgin Cathedral in San Francisco with Archpriest Serge Kotar officiating. A private burial will follow in the Serbian Cemetery in Colma, California. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
