Mrs. Irene Eads Kimel, 85, of Winston-Salem, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Irene was born in Surry County on October 18, 1936, to the late Caleb Oliver Eads and Margaret Tate Eads. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 35 plus years of service. Irene was a longtime member of Urban Street Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Irene enjoyed traveling, especially time spent at the beach with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Irene will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her brother, Delano Eads and a sister, Lorene Blanton. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Rufus Kimel, Jr.; daughter, Susan Catlett Singletary (Joel McClamrock); son, Raymond B. “Benny” Kimel; grandchildren, Jennifer Matthews (Patrick) and Brian Singletary (Katie); great-grandchildren, Morgan Singletary, Corey Matthews, Meredith Singletary, and Justin Matthews; and one sister, Arlene Dunn. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Tom Leonard officiating. Interment will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, February 21, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Palliative Care and Neuro-ICU units at Forsyth Medical Center for the compassionate care they provided to Irene. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 756, Osceola, WI 54020.
