Irene Smith Hartman

Mrs. Irene Smith Hartman, 86, passed away March 14, 2015 at Autumn Care of Mocksville. She was born June 21, 1928 in Davie County to the late William Duke Smith and Sally Bet Smith. Mrs. Hartman was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. She retired from Hanes Knitwear with 35 years of service and subsequently retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 10 years of service. She enjoyed cooking and baking and most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Uriah ""Chick"" Hartman, her son, Douglas Gray Hartman, her brothers and sister, Ray, Oscar, Odell, William, and Mae Smith. She is survived by her son, Eddie Hartman and wife Lucille of Advance; two grandchildren, Ashley Matthews and husband Curtis of Advance and Joshua Hartman of Advance; her great grandson, Walker Matthews; a wonderful sister and brother-in-law, Edna Livengood and husband Frank of Mocksville; two very special sisters-in-law, Elaine Smith and Ann Hartman of Advance; a special caregiver, Candace Chaffin. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Autumn Care of Mocksville (Oak Hall) for their loving care and compassion. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clayton Smith and the Rev. Rebecca Alice officiating. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
