Ira Bill Largen

Mr. Ira Bill Largen, 81, of Winston-Salem, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Largen was born on November 12, 1933, in Forsyth County to the late Lonnie Ellis Largen, Sr. and Edie Virginia Hall Largen. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where he served in several capacities. He went to work at Largen Jewelers at the age of 16, becoming a skilled watchmaker and later became owner and operator of the family business. Bill was a generous man and was always willing to give food and money to anyone who came in the store at a time of need. He had a passion for music and could play multiple instruments but was best known for playing the piano by ear. Bill also enjoyed woodworking and astronomy. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by one brother, Lonnie Ellis Largen, Jr. and a special aunt, Nancy Bell Hall. Mr. Largen is survived by his wife, Eyvonne Johnson Largen; three daughters, Renee Zell (Ed), Cathy Holbrook (Chester), and Crystal Jones (Bobby); seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Barker (Lloyd); and one sister-in-law, Dora-Jean Largen. Funeral services for Bill will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Unity Baptist Church with Pastor Benny Sprouse and Rev. Nathan Parrish officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Bill's Hospice nurse, Traci Kerley, for the compassionate care she provided to Bill during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the Largen family.
