KERNERSVILLE – Ida Mae Pate, 88, passed away January 28, 2021, after a long battle with dementia. She was born on August 15, 1932 in Buncombe County to Gaither and Pauline Banks.
Ida Mae was the happiest when around her family, especially her sisters. She was an avid reader of paperback books and a homebody. She loved to go on short trips with her sisters or her daughter. Ida Mae never learned to drive, so getting out to go to Asheville, Hampton, VA, Bee Log, NC or Dayton, TN to visit old homeplaces or family was exciting for her. She loved to laugh, smile and have fun.
In addition to her parents, Ida Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Stanley Pate; two grandchildren, Jason Lemar and Bridgette Broadstreet; three sisters, Wanda Edwards, Shirley Gosnell, and Ava Lee Spangler; and three brothers, JG Banks, Larry Banks and Donald Banks.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Pate Simmons (Billy); step-granddaughter, Lorie Thompson (Chris); sister, Gail Gray (George); a sister-in-law, Ann Banks; a brother-in-law, Harley Gosnell; and many nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid 19, there will be a private family service at the gravesite in Bee Log, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Century Park Baptist Church, 1051 Salisbury St, Kernersville, NC 27284 or a Food Bank of donor’s choice.
Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made to www.hayworth-miller.com
