Hughlene Davis Styron

Mrs. Hughlene Davis Styron, 79, of Clemmons, NC, passed away on her birthday, Tuesday, December 15, 2015, following many years of illnesses. Mrs. Styron was born on December 15, 1936, in Forsyth County to the late Vincent Norris Davis and Eleanor Lipe Davis. Hughlene was a graduate of Mineral Springs High School. Throughout her high school years, she worked at the A & P Grocery Store and then moved on to the Journal & Sentinel as a teletype operator. On June 20, 1959, she married Charles and began her life as wife and then mother to their three children. Hughlene loved dogs, tennis, par 3 golf, bridge, mowing the yard, soap operas, walks with the neighborhood ladies and being a grade parent for her daughters. She especially enjoyed Christmas and summer vacations while the children were out of school. In addition to her parents, Hughlene was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Harmie Lipe and a cousin, Stephen Lipe. Mrs. Styron is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles Styron; three daughters, Emily Styron of Zionsville, Indiana, Amy Styron Holcombe (Robert) of Clemmons, NC, and Betsey Styron (Rick) of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua, Olivia, Drew and Gryphon; and one cousin, Sandy Lipe of Taylorsville, SC. A Celebration of Hughlene's Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Don Gordon and Rev. Christa Warise officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of the doctors and nurses who have helped care for Hughlene, but most all thank you to ""Daddy"" for being such a wonderful and loving husband and caretaker for Hughlene over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
