Miss Hughia Lynn Jones, 63, of Statesville, died on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at her residence. Lynn was born in Mecklenburg County on July 7, 1954, to Alice Evelyn Ball and George Carl Jones, Sr. She was of the Moravian faith and attended Broad Street United Methodist Church in Statesville. An active member of her church, she participated in the choir, backpack ministry, and the children's committee. She graduated from Parkland High School and furthered her education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she earned two master's degrees in Education. Lynn taught elementary school and was a talented musician, singer, artist, and poet. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are one sister, Juanita (Nollie) Jones; one brother, George (Rebecca) Jones; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107, with Rev. John Bishop officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The National Kidney Services, 620 Montana Drive, Charlotte, NC 28216 or The Backpack Ministry of Broad Street United Methodist Church, 315 West Broad Street, Statesville, NC 28677.
