Mr. Hugh Joseph Kennedy, 95, of Lewisville, NC, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at The Oaks at Forsyth. Mr. Kennedy was born in Pennsylvania on July 22, 1920, to the late Alfonso Kennedy and Mary McDermitt Kennedy. Hugh served in the United States Army from July 1942 until February 1946 where he fought in World War II. Following the conclusion of the war, Hugh opened a restaurant in Paris above the train station. Upon his return to the United States, Hugh graduated from Drexel Institute of Technology with a B.S. Degree in Engineering. He was an electrical engineer and worked on numerous government and NASA contracts including the Strategic Defense Initiative or more commonly known as ""Star Wars"" under President Reagan. Hugh worked at Western Electric and retired from AT&T. Mr. Kennedy was an avid golfer and made numerous life-long friends in his years playing including astronauts from NASA. In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by his wife, Janean Kennedy; one son, Sean Kennedy; a brother, Joseph Kennedy; and three sisters, Mary Kennedy, Aileen Betson and Jackie Peters. Mr. Kennedy is survived by one son, Robert Kennedy and wife, Dina of Cape Coral, FL; two daughters, Karen Pizzuti and husband, Rich of Yadkinville and Renee Williams and fiancé, Joseph Cranfill of Lewisville; seven grandchildren, Michael Kennedy, Michael Boulding, Taylor Kennedy and wife, Haley, Chelsea Kennedy, Erica Bonds and husband, Clayton, Brandi Kennedy and Olivia Pizzuti; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kameron Kennedy. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Parklawn Memorial Park with Pastor Randy Manser officiating. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the Kennedy family.
