Mr. Hubert Philip Weir, 88, of Winston-Salem died Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born March 11, 1920 in Forsyth County, the son of the late, Samuel and Hattie Cook Weir. Mr. Weir grew up in the Waughtown Community where he was a lifelong member of First United Church of Christ and was active in various leadership roles. He was part owner and officer in his family's business, Triangle Body Works. He was wounded in combat while serving with the US Army during World War II . He was an avid fisherman and gardener. His 65 year marriage to Dorothy ""Dot"" Howell Weir began as a love story on roller skates. She preceded him in death in 2006. In addition to his wife and parents he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Weir and Aaron Weir. Survivors include one son, Perry Weir and wife, Nancy of Advance; one daughter, Kathy Sanders and husband, Ed of Raleigh; one grandson, Jeff Weir and wife, Deanne of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Jennifer Flippin and husband, Michael of Winston-Salem; seven great grandchildren, Brianna, Maleah, Zachary, Olivia, and Ava Weir and Tanner and Michael Flippin, Jr. ; and one sister-in-law, Lucile Cope of Greensboro. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at First United Church of Christ with Rev. Christa Warise officiating. A military graveside service will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina, P. O. Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450. The family expresses their gratitude to all of the care givers for their tender loving care and support during the past two years.
