Hoyle L. Mann

Hoyle L. Mann, 89, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born October 14, 1919 in Forsyth County to the late Romulus Malcolm Mann, Sr. and Elsie Thompson Mann. Mr. Mann was an active member of Calvary Moravian Church and previously a 28 year member of Calvary Baptist Church. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army serving in Military Intelligence in India and Burma during WWII, the Korean Conflict, and Japan, the Presidio in San Francisco, and other duty stations. After retirement from the military, Mr. Mann worked for McLean Trucking Co, the Army Corps of Engineers and J.C. Penny Inc. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Romulus M. Mann, Jr., Elwood T. Mann and three sisters; Frances Lyttle, Margaret Hall and Nancy Transou. He was the beloved husband for 65 years to the late Katherine Fulk Mann and devoted father to his surviving children: three daughters: Carolyn Dickens and husband, Tom of Advance, NC; Marilyn Wetzel and husband, David of Carlisle, Pa.; Judith Snowden and husband, Sammy of Clemmons, NC; a son, Robert Mann and wife Hanne of Advance; six grandchildren; John Charles Eichler, Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; Lauren E. Crump of Gainesville, Fl; Kristen Detweiler of Newville, Pa.; Michael Stamy of Carlisle, Pa; Robert H. Mann of Tampa, Fl.; Jennifer Mann of Advance, NC; and thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are his wife, Lessie Johnson Mann of the home and her children; Nan Currie and husband Patrick; Jane Bumgarner and husband Steve; Joe Kimel; and their families. The Family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 17 at Calvary Moravian Church and will be officiated by Bishop Lane Sapp and Rev. Gary Byrum. Burial will follow in the Forsyth Memorial Park with Military Honors by the US Army Honor Guard.
